Title Seoul International Copyright Conference 2013 Held in Seoul

Seoul International Copyright Conference 2013, organized and hosted, respectively, by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Korea Copyright Commission, was successfully held at Intercontinental COEX Diamond Hall, Samsung-dong, Seoul on November 26-27.

 

The conference held on 26th under the theme of ‘Copyright Ecosystem in the Era of Creative Economy' with approximately 279 participants was initiated by the keynote speech on ‘Copyright and Creative Economy’ by Professor Lee, Min-hwa of KAIST, who is well-known as the preacher of creative economy, and presentations on ‘Status of Korea Music Industry and Introduction of Successful Cases' by Lee Yong-jang, the vice-president of Loen Entertainment, and ‘Industrial Analysis on Exceptions and Limitations of Copyright' by Joost Poort, a senior economic researcher from the Netherlands, were followed.

 

In the afternoon session, latest issues with regard to trends in Korea-China-Japan's legislations on copyright limitations and exceptions and revision of copyright law were discussed. The general discussion session was attended by copyright policy makers from China, Thailand, the Philippines, who shared their ideas on the latest issues and copyright matters of their countries.

 

The conference, conducted for two days, was an opportunity to examine creative economy from the copyright perspectives during its first session on the 26th, along with discussions on legislation trends home and abroad and associated counter actions. During the second and third sessions on the 27th, proper ways to utilize shared copyrighted materials and open source software in order to promote secondary creative activities were actively discussed.
