□ Television Broadcasting In Malaysia

Television services in Malaysia began on December 28, 1963 under the auspices of the government-owned Radio Television Malaysia. Prior to that, radio was the only broadcasting medium in Malaysia. The first television telecast was made from its studio in Dewan Tunku Abdul Rahman. Subsequently, broadcast operations moved office to Angkasapuri Complex where its telecast began on October 6, 1969 and it was in that premises that rapid development in broadcasting for both radio and television began. In 1969, radio and television services were merged under the then Ministry of Information. Initially, in 1963, the first television channel was a single network known as Rangkaian Satu (The First Channel) and was broadcast in black and white. The absence of any local expertise at that time on television broadcasting technicalities necessitated the importation of foreign experts to assist in developing the industry. For this purpose, the Malaysian government sought the assistance of two Canadian experts to supervise the new medium and their tasks focused largely on the day-to-day running of the station.
