□  Thai Copyright Act to be amended for tautening pirated goods buyer

Mr. Alongkorn Ponlaboot, the Deputy Minister of Commerce revealed in regards to the concrete enforcement on copyright pirated product at present that it has started since the government has announced that intellectual property and creative industry is one of the “national agenda” which the government has to pay attention to. This announcement caused the IP violation suppression committee has to create a strategy plan for focusing certainly on the suppression and acknowledging people to recognize on the important of intellectual property and how to use it for running the “creative economic” of Thailand.
 
Previously, Thai people usually think that IP violation is just a small problem happening on street side. People have not realized yet that infringement is a serious offense. Meanwhile, small retailer was caught instead of a big guy. This case shows that corruption and bribery also probe to the suppression.
 
The new amendment of copyright Act and trademark Act will result in the positive way in order to enforce the suppression effectively.
 
“At this moment, the creative product of Thailand is deceasing because of the piracy. In the past, there were around 100 Thai movies a year, now it is only 40 movies. We used to gain billion baht from the movie industry, now only 300,000 million. As a result, we need to encourage our people to recognize how important of IP in regards to promoting their businesses and entire economic.”
